Intuition: that little voice or feeling deep inside all of us that very few of us listen to. As humans, we spend so much time trying to justify, find a scientific explanation for, or give a reason for our actions. Without it, we find it difficult to trust that our actions or feelings are valid. What if there doesn't need to be a reason or justification though and trusting that voice or feeling is credible?
I've recently realised that actually, listening to your intuition is a wonderfully freeing and exciting thing.
How many times have you done something that doesn't feel like the right thing to do, but you do it anyway, and afterwards you ask yourself "Why didn't I just listen to myself before?"
Why do we teach ourselves to ignore this feeling and conform to expectations or find reasons to do, be or behave a certain way? Why do we do that?
Intuition is built upon past experiences and the information we gained from them. We collect data all the time, both consciously and subconsciously through everything we do, from relationships to career, from the weather to what we eat; the more experiences we collect, the more information our instinct has to work from.
Your intuition is fine tuned to you and only you.
It connects your mind, body and spirit and no-one is more of an expert at you than you.
What a fantastic tool we have at our disposal, something that knows us and connects us completely, yet we still choose to ignore it sometimes - why? Do you ever force yourself to do something even though it doesn't feel like the right thing to do?
It can be dauting to make a decision without a failproof reason, we feel the need to justify ourselves all the time and saying "Because I have a feeling" just doesn't seem to cut it. There is a huge stigma attached to those people who delve into their "spiritual side", I think people are embarrassed to listen to it, or even acknowledge it in the first place. After all, it is easier to do something when you have scientific proof rather than a just hunch isn't it? Maybe though, those people who are in tune with their intuition are living a wholesome, fulfilling and happier life as they are so connected to themselves and when they make a decision, their whole being is on board with it.
The only way to get better at trusting our intuition is to listen to it.
We must acknowledge that little voice or that gut feeling, even if you do still choose to ignore it, the fact that you have acknowledged it and consciously decided to ignore it, will give you an idea of what it was trying to tell you in the first place.
The more you listen to your intuition though, the more powerful and accurate it will become.
Meditation can be a great aid for this.
I meditated properly for the first time the other day and it is a wonderful way to connect to yourself. The more in tune you are with yourself, the easier it will become to notice and respond to that little voice that is there to protect and guide us.
In a world where we want answers to everything and we want it instantly, let us enjoy waking up to ourselves again.
Listen to yourself and trust your intuition.
