Well it has been a LONG time since I wrote a post so it feels good to be back!
I'm starting it with a bold statement but one that is very true (hear me out).
KNOWLEDGE IS NOT ENOUGH.
What do I mean?
Well most of us know what we should be doing in order to be healthier, or fitter or happier BUT we still don't do it. So the knowledge we have clearly isn't enough is it?
For example, we know exercise is good for us, whatever form that takes for you BUT many of us still just can't seem to make it a regular thing. Why?
Or we know that too much sugar is not good for our health yet we still dive headfirst into those sugary snacks. Why?
Or we know that the glass of wine is not going to make us feel our best tomorrow but we still do it anyway. Why?
We cannot rely on knowledge alone, we need somthing more, and what do I think that is? ACTION PLAN (or even better ACTION AND A PLAN).
We need to start somewhere and that means taking action. Knowing where to start can be a tricky situation though right? There is SO much information out there and so many options that it can be too overwhelming. You know what though? It doesn't really matter at this stage, just start doing something. Start really small, so small that it becomes habitual and takes away the decision making process.
For example, rather than worrying about which type of workout you should do or what time of day you should do it or whether you need equipment or not or what shoes you should wear to do it - do 5 squats every time you make your cuppa in the morning. As soon as you click down the button on the kettle do your 5 squats.
Rather than swearing you will never eat another biscuit again or swerving away from the ice cream aisle in the shop take action and instead of having your go-to snack at the go-to time, swap it for something else, maybe a hot drink, maybe a handful of nuts etc. Just substitute ONE to begin with, start small and just start.
Rather than mindlessly pouring that glass of wine in the evening, why not swap it to phoning a friend for a 10 min chat instead?
So we have taken action. We have done something to make a start, now what?
We need a plan. Again, it doesnt have to be something long and complicated. A plan can be a simple routine. In fact, the more routine and habitual it is the better! The less wiggle room we give ourselves the better. In my opinion, the best time to do it is in the morning when we have less distractions and we set ourselves up for the day with a positive start.
Imagine starting the day proving to yourself that you are important and you can stick to your promise you made to yourself? That is possible! By taking a simple action that puts you on the path to your success.
So what action can you take today that will prove to yourself you know it and you can do it?
