Task 1a: TELL SOMEONE YOU LOVE ONE REASON WHY YOU LOVE THEM
We all have someone we love and I’m sure we tell them that we love them, but do you ever actually pinpoint what it is about them that you love? And then tell them?
That is today's task, be specific.
It can be easy to tell someone you love them, but it can be harder to tell them one reason why you do. I promise you, it feels good to do it, and if they reciprocate it, it feels even more incredible.
This is something we added onto our evening meals as a family.
We go around the table and tell each other one reason why we love each other. It is such a highlight of the day and you can almost see everyone grow a little taller with each thing they hear.
Task 1b: SAY ONE REASON WHY YOU LOVE YOURSELF
Maybe the first part of this task was easy, this second part is much harder isn’t it? It feels silly to pick out something we love about ourselves doesn't it? It is embarrassing to say it out loud. But I am asking this to change. Why shouldn’t we love ourselves? We are stuck with ourselves and there is SO much to love.
So just like you did earlier for someone else, I want you to pick out one reason why you love yourself. If you are finding it really hard, think of a reason why you are proud of yourself.
Share these with us. Let's flood the chat with things we love about ourselves!
Task 2: LEAVE YOUR PHONE OUT OF YOUR BEDROOM
Tonight, don't take your phone into your bedroom. If you have a partner, encourage them to do the same. If you are panicking because you use your phone as an alarm, then that's ok, take it into your room with you BUT you are only allowed on it when you are standing up.
Our phones have been designed to be addictive (if you haven’t already watched “Social Dilemma” go and watch it!) so it is not really our fault that we are so attached to our devices. However, they do have a massive impact on our lives, from sleep to relationships, to anxiety to lack of concentration. By giving ourselves time away from it, we are allowing space to be present, to spend quality time with our loved ones and give our brains a rest. We are allowing ourselves to switch off and get proper sleep rather than checking the news and worrying about the last post we just saw.
This is a great habit to get into. You can buy old-school alarm clocks for £5 off amazon so you don't even need to bring your phone into the bedroom to use as an alarm anymore either (that's what I've done and it makes a huge difference)
If you do bring your phone into your room because it is your alarm. Put it on "do not disturb" and only use it whilst you are standing up - don't even allow yourself to perch on the end of the bed. You will soon find that actually it's not as interesting as you initially thought.
